A Nobel Prize-winning physicist, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, the first Canadian astronaut to walk in space, a celebrated photographer/explorer, one of the Middle East’s most influential women and an “Asian hero” will join six pioneering scientists from around the world to choose the 10 winners of the 2016 Rolex Awards for Enterprise.

As Rolex is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Awards, 10 winners, instead of the customary five, will be selected this year: five Laureates and five Young Laureates. The Laureates will each receive 100,000 Swiss francs and each Young Laureate 50,000 Swiss francs to advance their work, as well as a Rolex chronometer, ongoing international publicity and access to advice from the worldwide network of past Laureates.

Applications for the 2016 Awards have closed. A total of 2,322 applications were received from people of 144 nationalities.
